John Joranco

Designer

San Luis Sustainability Group

John first gained a deep love for nature and the earth while standing in awe under the giant California redwoods as a small child. Ever since then he has been committed to helping protect the earth and helping humankind live in balance and harmony with the planet.

John’s childhood love of Lego’s led to a career path in Architecture. After attending a junior college for a few years and receiving a certificate in interior design, he was off to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to find a path that would merge architecture with his love of the planet. He found it his freshman year when his class went on a field trip to Ken and Polly’s Trout Farm Complex, then under construction. From that day on he was hooked on sustainable construction techniques and passive solar design.

While at Cal Poly, John was fortunate to have Polly Cooper as a professor, mentor, and friend. Through that relationship and with the influence of other instructors, John’s passion for sustainable architecture grew and matured. After graduating from Cal Poly in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a minor in art, a fantastic opportunity was presented to him. He was asked to become a member of the San Luis Sustainability Group.

Since joining the SLOSG group John has continued his growth and education under the wings and guidance of Ken, Polly, and Scott.

John aspires to apply his knowledge of sustainable design to low income housing development; to create holistic, earth friendly, and healthy communities.
